History in the Faking

Overview

Life is getting more dismal by the minute in the tiny town of Sultana. The tourists are gone, business is slow, and if it gets any slower, Eric and Rachel's family will be forced to move away. Luckily, Eric, Rachel, and their friend Cody have a plan to transform this sleepy town into a hotbed of activity. In an elaborate hoax that makes headlines and sends archaeologists and tourists flocking to Sultana, the kids orchestrate the discovery of an ancient Egyptian tablet in a local riverbed. But sometimes the best-laid plans work out a little too well. How are the three friends going to explain their way out of this one?

Reviews

A fabulously fun series that ... will appeal to boys and girls alike. --The Literary Word-- (03/26/2011) A fun, engaging series for adventure and history buffs. --Guill & Quire-- (03/01/2010) The far-fetched story, intended as pure fun, succeeds as a fast-paced archeological adventure, the first of a planned series. --Kirkus Reviews-- (04/15/2010) Kids with a soft spot for Indiana Jones-type adventure will eat up the book which brings ancient Egypt to smalltown Manitoba. --Cindy McGlynn, Movie Entertainment-- (03/08/2010) Andreas Oertel sets a brisk but not overly rushed pace early in the novel and never lets up, placing a series of increasingly complicated obstacles and mysteries in his portagonists' path until the cinematic conclusion. Oertel has laid the foundation for a fun, engaging series for adventure and history buffs. --Quill & Quire-- (03/01/2010) A Fun adventure filled with short chapters, mystery, and suspense. The characters are well-developed, the plot is unique, and the background research is accurate. --Jennifer Wardip, Goodreads-- (11/25/2012) History in the Faking is great fun! The kids are resourceful but believably so, smart but not too smart. A good, solid, well-written adventure story that kids will really enjoy. So will their parents. --Mary Thomas, CM Magazine-- (02/26/2010)
