The Georgia 11th Cavalry Regiment State Guards was organized in August 1863 to serve for six months as local defense in the southwestern section of the State. Companies - Co. A Thomas Cavalry A. T. MacIntyre Thomas County - Co. B Lowndes Mounted Infantry Simeon A. Smith Lowndes County - Co. C Moultrie Cavalry Elijah Tillman Colquitt County - Co. D Brooks Cavalry Wiley W. Groover Brooks County - Co. E Echols Cavalry James W. Staten Echols County - Co. F Berrien [County] Cavalry William Godfrey Berrien County - Co. G Clinch Cavaliers Clinch Cavalry Rowan B. Johnson Clinch County - Co. H Ware Volunteers William B. Folks Ware County - Co. I Attapulgus Cavalry Decatur Cavalry Patrick A. McGriff Decatur County. This company and company K were known as the Decatur Squadron. Captain Patrick A. McGriff was the commanding captain of this squadron. - Co. K Flint Cavalry Decatur County Squadron William N. Bruce Decatur County This company and company I were known as the Decatur Squadron.
