He was previously reader in sociology at University College London, teaching courses on Finnish society and culture at UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies. He has published widely in the field of sociology of religion, social theory, and Finnish national identity. George Maude studied history at the London School of Economics and was Bryce Memorial Scholar of the University of London. He was, for many years, docent in international relations at the Law Department of the University of Turku and has also taught at the University of Eastern Finland.
