Frank Tirro (Omaha, Nebraska, 1935-2021), doctorado por la Universidad de Chicago, fue profesor de música y decano en la School of Music de la Universidad de Yale, desde 1991. Enseñó historia, interpretación y dirección y, ocasionalmente, dirigió un grupo de jazz. Con anterioridad fue presidente del Departamento de Música de la Universidad de Duke, donde enseñó historia y dirección, y dirigió el Collegium Musicum. Era especialista en música del Renacimiento e historia del jazz. Como instrumentista, tocaba el clarinete (cuya técnica estudió con Jerome Stowell, de la Chicago Symphony Orchestra). Frank Tirro (Omaha, Nebraska, 1935-2021), who held a doctorate from the University of Chicago, was a professor of music and Dean of the School of Music at Yale University starting in 1991. He taught history, performance, and conducting, and occasionally led a jazz ensemble. Previously, he served as Chair of the Music Department at Duke University, where he taught music history and conducting and directed the Collegium Musicum. He was a specialist in Renaissance music and jazz history. As a performer, he played the clarinet, having studied the instrument under Jerome Stowell of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
