Roger Alier graduated with a degree in modern history, his doctoral thesis obtained the mention cum laude and the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize in 1979, and was published by the Catalan Society of Musicology. He has been a professor at the Univ. Of Barcelona since 1970, and a professor of music history and opera history since 1987; From 1993 to 2006 he also taught an annual opera course at the Autonomous University of Madrid. He is a music critic for the newspaper La Vanguardia, and was director of the universal music section
