Overview

The purpose of this book is to help folks understand and use this new hexadecimal or 'hex' notation for scales. It is an introduction, covering binary and hexadecimal numbers and their use in naming and illustrating scales. It is intended to be suitable for novice and musical experts alike. It also has additional information and diagrams intended for the guitarist or others using string instruments tuned in fourths. It is illustrated for the pianist and also includes traditional music notation the grand staff. The information however is not limited to guitarists etc. The concepts and scales apply to all of western music using the twelve-tone equal temperament system. Keyboard diagrams have been added as they may help many who are more at home on the piano or similar instruments.
