Overview

Lt. Commander Garcon Dore was the perfect space fleet officer, so why did his friend Mobo Sani kill him? Reporter Wanda Johnson visits Sani in prison to find the answer. Since Sani pled guilty, there hadn't been a trial or testimony of any kind. He had never said why he did it, but he hadn't denied it either. Only a few people knew what happened on that distant world called Far Meadow. Now, the spectacular result of Garcon Dore's fatal mission to Far Meadow has borne fruit in a galactic alliance. Humanity has made friends with an alien race. Even so, the question of what happened on that planet haunts the reporter, like an itch she can't scratch. There is more to this story. But when Wanda goads Sani into telling his tale, he wants to start years earlier, when Garcon Dore was merely the golden child at the space academy. And where Sani was disliked by everyone except Dore, who had become Sani's friend. The more Wanda hears, the less sense Sani's story makes. Why would he murder his commanding officer and only friend?
