After spending seven years in Melbourne, Kat and her family returned home in search of the right support for their son, Henry, who was diagnosed with autism during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kat struggled to find the right book to help her daughter, Florence, understand Henry’s unique way of experiencing the world and explain autism in a way that resonated with her family, so she decided to write Henry & Flo. She hopes that this story will help other parents and siblings to navigate the beautiful, and sometimes challenging, journey of growing up with a family member with special needs and remind us all that love, acceptance and embracing differences makes life truly wonderful.
