About the writer: Jan Evans qualified as a teacher in 1973 and taught in numerous primary schools in England (class teacher, PE, Special Educational Needs, Reading Recovery), in a Learning Support Service and a Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) Unit. At the same time, she privately tutored children for over 30 years (the last 12 years on a full time, self-employed basis) working with children aged 5 -17 who find the day-to-day learning process in school a challenge. This is her first book. Previously she has written the content for 'Think About!' (a listening programme for learners aged 7+ that was shortlisted for the BETT Awards), project managed 'The Sledmere Stories' (a series of reading books for reluctant readers), and designed 'Flexisound', a set of plastic folding mats to help with phonics.
