J L Leeming began her career as a trainee reporter (too shy at a sports event to approach the organisers for results; too overcome by a woman's story of her husband's death to decipher her tear-soggy notes). She moved on to market research - gaining confidence and insight into people's attitudes - then into PR, working for agencies in London and Africa. Later, as a freelance consultant, she also wrote fiction, and scripts for exhibitions at home and overseas including for the British Stand at Expo 86 in Vancouver. After trying to help individual animals - working for charities - and all she has learned and seen (she witnessed the circus training scene), she has felt driven to write this expose of what we do and allow - but her message is positive: we can all get it wrong - we all can change.
