Fun to read. Conveys a range of emotions. Heaven off the Coast explores extended family dynamics held together by multiple languages and belief systems. M.S.A Bacon addresses the real life problems of originating in and outside the USA. BEN BAKER POET, LYRICIST PEACESCAPES.ORG Heaven off the Coast is simply and beautifully written. I love the ending. M.S.A. Bacon makes this reader curious and wanting to know more. Certainly made me want to put Okinawa on my bucket list! JUDITH KAJIWARA, ENTER THE STILLNESS ARTS; AUTHOR, SILLY GREEN MASK M.S.A. Bacon's debut novel, Heaven off the Coast, is a quiet, powerful exploration of family, identity, and belonging that lingers long after the final page. I recommend it highly. JASON WYMAN (THEY/THEM), OWNER, QUEERLY COMPLEX; CO-FOUNDER, TREE OF CHANGE AND CULTURE TENDING COMMONS June's story unfolds in a luminous quiet way that expands your inner landscape. As a Japanese American with complex ties to Japan, I found myself unexpectedly moved by how M.S.A. Bacon brings the experience of cultural in-betweenness to life. Through June's story, the tensions of belonging and distance feel both familiar and gently revealing. Heaven off the Coast is a novel that resonates long after you set it down. REV. ROGER MORIMOTO, DIRECTOR, SPIRITUAL LIFE FOUNDATION There is a particular kind of wisdom that only arrives in midlife. In Heaven off the Coast, M.S.A. Bacon captures that vibration with exquisite grace. Her prose shimmers with tenderness and restraint. As a fellow hapa navigating the layered intersections of culture and belonging, I felt a profound kinship with her protagonist's journey toward self-acceptance and peace. KIM MAKOI, D.C., PH.D., THE ISSUES ARE IN THE TISSUES This novel is not just a story; it is a mirror, reflecting the many ways we search for wholeness. Heaven Off the Coast is a symbolic and timely manuscript that invites us to rediscover who we truly are, capturing the very zeitgeist of our times. DR. ANGELA R. The novel gives shape to cultural longing. ALLISON CUNDIFF, AUTHOR, HEY PICKPOCKET M.S.A. Bacon writes with a poet's eye for detail. June is an utterly compelling portrayal of a woman caught between two cultures who has sought her whole life for a place to belong. Following her journey is both entertaining and satisfying. ALEGRIA BARCLAY, POET, LIBRARIAN, ACTIVIST; DEAN, COLLEGE PREPARATORY HIGH SCHOOL, OAKLAND, CA Heaven off The Coast is an insightful journey into nostalgia, identity and self-discovery. JON OSAKI, CO DIRECTOR, MAKING WAVES: THE RISE OF ASIAN AMERICA; EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, JAPANESE COMMUNITY YOUTH COUNCIL, SF, CA Heaven off the Coast is a most delectable feast of sublime cultural heritage, insightful self-awareness, and subtle yet incisive social critique of the generational consequences of settler-colonial toxicity in the US and Japan. This book, an honorific offering to ancestors, living cultures, family, and self, is not only a delightful depiction of a character's spiritual ascension but also a persuasive invitation for the reader to embark on such a liberating path. REV. ALEXANDRE DA SILVA SOUTO, AGAPE CENTER FOR HEALING ARTS I love the cover art! I can't express how much I enjoyed reading Heaven off the Coast. Inspired by June's story, I too may change the direction of my life. LINDA WORRELL, CO-TRANSLATOR, ONCE WE ARE SAFE BY ALESSANDRA CARATI
