OverviewThis book is the result of a research presented in option to the title of first degree specialist in cardiology. The descriptive observational study was developed at the General University Hospital ""Vladimir Ilich Lenin"" of Holguin in Cuba, from January to December 2022. The general objective of the thesis was to contribute with the Mother and Child Program, to a better knowledge about the evolution of pregnancy in cardiac patients, through the description of a sample of this condition. The universe was constituted by 60 pregnant women with heart disease who were seen at the heart disease and pregnancy consultation. As a result of the study, 31.7% of the cases presented congenital heart disease, with bicuspid aorta being the most frequent. In the group of other causes, mitral valve prolapse predominated. Thirty percent of the patients under study presented rheumatic heart disease, with stenosis and mitral valve insufficiency being the most frequent. In 85% of the pregnant women, the heart disease was diagnosed before pregnancy. The cardiologist advised 93.3% that they could continue the pregnancy.
