Overview

What happens when a successful husband, father, business exec working for George Lucas flogging Star Wars merchandise suffers a precipitous hearing loss so severe it renders him deaf? In short order, he loses his job, his house, his family, and his mind. But when an old college girl friend contacts him out of the blue, happiness seems right around the corner until he learns that the woman he's fallen in love with twice harbors a secret so devastating it threatens to destroy them both. In the tradition of such true, hair-raising, accounts as Girl, Interrupted, and A Million Little Pieces, Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow: A True Story of Love, Hearing Loss, Heartbreak and Redemption shows how one man's struggle with sudden, adult onset deafness eventually leads to a richer, more meaningful life. Hear Today not only speaks to the human condition, but demonstrates that when faced with a curve in the road so severe it threatens a crack-up, it's possible to face life with wit, compassion, and grace-saving humor.

Author Information

Before suffering a sudden case of adult onset deafness, John J. Geoghegan served as the VP, Global Sales and Marketing for LucasArts, the videogame division of LucasFilm. While at LucasArts, Mr. Geoghegan significantly contributed to the revitalization of the Indian Jones and Star Wars videogame properties including the introduction of Star Wars: Battlefront, the best selling Stars Wars videogame of all time. Prior to joining Lucas, Mr. Geoghegan spent fifteen years managing advertising agencies for such publically-held communication companies as Saatchi, IPG and WPP where he worked in New York, Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok, and San Francisco. Today, Mr. Geoghegan specializes in reporting on unusual inventions that fail in the marketplace despite their innovative nature. His articles on white elephant technology have appeared in the New York Times Science Section, WIRED, Popular Science, and the San Francisco Chronicle Sunday Magazine among other publications. Mr. Geoghegan is also author of Operation Storm: Japan's Top Secret Submarines and Its Plan to Change the Course of WWII (Crown 2013). Operation Storm tells the true but little known story of Japan's fleet of underwater aircraft carriers purpose-built to launch a surprise attack against New York City and Washington, DC as a follow up to Pearl Harbor. The Wall Street Journal called OpStorm, a fascinating, meticulously researched, and deft account. Mr. Geoghegan began his journalism career out of college as a Special Correspondent for the New York Times, and currently serves as the Executive Director of The SILOE Research Institute in Marin County, California. John J Geoghegan's biography Hear Today Gone Tomorrow will release with New Haven Publishing Ltd spring 2018
