Author Information

Dr. Awad, a research fellow at University College London (UCL), uses 3D printing to rethink how drugs are manufactured to account for individual patients' needs. Using computer-aided design software, she created 3D medicines with Braille patterns and different shapes to help visually impaired patients. She has also created personalized dosages, such as combining multiple medications within pellets to simplify administration. She has a PhD from UCL, MSc from UCL, UK and BSc from the Applied Science University, Jordan. She was named the 30 Under 30 – Europe – Science & Healthcare 2022 Forbes list, FIPWiSE rising stars list 2022, and MIT Innovators Under 35 – MENA 2021 Prof Gaisford has pioneered the development and application of 3D printing in medicine design, function and delivery, exploring how various types of 3D printing technologies can be exploited to revolutionize and personalize healthcare. As an analytical scientist, he is also a world leader in the physical characterization of medicines. He has published four textbooks, including Essentials of Pharmaceutical Preformulation, is a contributor to Aulton's Pharmaceutics and was Pharmaceutics Editor for the 2020 Edition of Remington's Pharmaceutical Sciences. He recently launched an educational YouTube channel, Pharma Drama, with the aim of helping students Get Science Sorted!
