OverviewIn Morocco, with the adoption of Law 65-00, promulgated in 2002 and effective in 2005, significant progress has been made in establishing basic health coverage through the extension of compulsory health insurance (AMO) and the generalization of the medical assistance scheme for the poor (RAMED). Five years after its generalization, RAMED has undergone a phase of evolution characterized mainly by the registration of more than 9.5 million beneficiaries and the provision of more than 12 million services by hospitals in the Kingdom, ranging from simple consultations to highly specialized procedures such as organ transplants. However, despite the progress made, certain constraints need to be addressed in depth in order to be overcome and thus enable RAMED to achieve its objectives. Aware of the need to remedy these shortcomings and ensure its sustainability, several efforts are underway, particularly in terms of financing, upgrading healthcare facilities and technical platforms, and governance.
