Overview

Of the many illnesses particularly common and problematic in older adults that health care providers need to address are Alzheimer's disease and Diabetes Mellitus. The intention of this book is to educate the layperson and care providers about Alzheimer's disease and Diabetes Mellitus, and support her or him in moving towards a more effective role in managing the condition. This includes the many important interactions with medical professionals as well as other providers in the vast industry of diagnosis, services, supplements and information for both Diabetes and Alzheimer's disease. On the other hand, it is also my intention to provide readily accessible and useful information for medical professionals and other helping individuals such as family members, to support them effectively interacting with and assisting individuals with Alzheimer's disease and Diabetes Mellitus or at risk for these conditions. In order to do so, this book provides substantial technical information about the body, its normal functions and how they are affected by Alzheimer's disease and Diabetes Mellitus, the symptomatology and considerable practical advice regarding treatment and home care management. Some individuals reading the book will want to pursue all of these areas with equal intensity; others may find their needs focus more heavily on the nature of the disease itself or how to manage it. The Introduction and Table of Contents will assist readers in choosing whether to read the material from cover to cover or to focus upon particular issues covered in the various chapters. The Searchable nature of e-books will also assist readers to look up a particular topic of interest or importance to them. The reader should feel free to choose the sections of the text of greatest relevance and usefulness to you. The first 3 chapters of this medical book discuss biological and cognitive changes in aging as well as the theories that explain the occurrence of aging.
