The book will contribute towards evidence-based policy- making to improve MCH indicators.” — K.S. James, Director, International Institute for Social Sciences, Mumbai “Improving national averages disguise the unacceptable inequities in social and economic progress that continue to plague India. This book makes an important contribution to identifying some of the disparities in maternal and child health between and within the Empowered Action Group (EAG) states, as well as making practical policy recommendations to improve the health situation of those most disadvantaged. Its findings should be taken seriously.” — Alaka M Basu, Former Professor, Department of Global Development, Cornell University.
