Overview

This practical guide opens with an overview of the therapeutic counselling techniques and medical treatments used for children suffering from ADHD. Dick de Ruiter then describes the possibility of using special sounds and music as an extension of these therapies. As a therapeutic tool, music and sound has been overlooked, until now, in the treatment of ADHD. The accompanying CD contains the sounds of singing bowls, chimes and other instruments - including the human voice - all of which have been proven to have a special effect on both body and mind. It can be used as background during therapy, communication training or relaxation exercises. It can, also, be played at home, to immerse the child in a warm and comfortable sound bath. Several tracks have neurosonic qualities that have a direct and calming effect, especially on children with ADHD. After having experienced the effects, they are often highly motivated to listen regularly to the CD.

Dick de Ruiter has been a yoga teacher since 1969 and since 1980 has specialized in the harmonic effects of sound. He is the author of the Binkey Kok Publications Book & CD series including Healing Sounds of Didgeridoo and The Unique Singing Bowl.
