He Will Lead Me: A Spiritual Biography of Oscar M. Knutson: Pentecostal Minister, Evangelist, and Gospel Publisher

Overview

""Imitate me, as I imitate Christ."" These words from the apostle Paul reverberate to us in the present day. As Christians, we must engage with those who have faithfully walked the path of Jesus before us. This spiritual biography of Rev. Oscar M. Knutson (1900-1993) articulates the life and ministry of a Norwegian immigrant who became a Pentecostal pastor and evangelist in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Marked by deep confidence in Jesus Christ, daily attunement to the Holy Spirit, and an incarnated vision of ministry on the local level, Knutson's life and work provides a roadmap for Christians of any tradition, encouraging them to trust in God's loving care, and to seek and serve God with their entire lives.

Reviews

""Alex Fergus has provided a vivid, and at times moving, account of Oscar M. Knutson's contribution to the history of Pentecostalism in the United States. Based on a remarkable sweep of archival materials, many of which derive from Knutson's descendants, He Will Lead Me weaves together a lavish tapestry of reflections on theological evolution within the Pacific Northwest landscape, spiritual biography, and the sometimes-gritty history of religious evangelism in modern America."" --Anthony E. Clark, Professor of Chinese History, Whitworth University ""He Will Lead Me is an artfully compelling combination of intellection and argument with spiritual challenge and pastoral wisdom. Fergus's readers stand poised to experience food for their souls as well as for their minds. I wholeheartedly commend it!"" --Matthew Bell, Instructor in Computer Science, Whitworth University ""This book is a wonderful resource for understanding not only Knutson, but to gain a picture of how the Pentecostal movement was being received and adopted into a Northwest culture in the 1920s and beyond. Fergus has given us a great gift into this world."" --Jim Singleton, Faculty, Flourish Institute of Theology ""The author has done an outstanding job in ferreting out information from various newspapers and archival resources. This spiritual biography brings to life the important story of an almost forgotten early pioneer evangelist and minister who exemplified faithful service to God."" --Glenn W. Gohr, Reference Archivist, Flower Pentecostal Heritage Center
