OverviewBenjamin Hawley was born to Thomas and Francis (Maling) Hawley on October 5, 1703, in London, England. To escape prejudice against his Quaker faith, he moved to the American colonies at the age of eighteen, landing in Pennsylvania in 1722. He returned to England several times over the years, including a trip in the winter of 1729-1730, during which he married Dinah Gabiter. After returning to North America, Peter and Dinah settled in Birmingham Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. They had six children. Peter practiced farming and teaching, and he remained influential in the Quaker religion throughout his life. He died on July 29, 1782. This well-organized genealogy follows the Benjamin Hawley line for nine more generations, right up to the present day. It includes 243 descendants and 110 spouses. Benjamin Hawley descendants are still found in Pennsylvania, but there are also connections in New York, Washington, D.C., Iowa, Illinois, Arizona, Florida, and elsewhere. Most records include dates and locations of birth, marriage and death. The author sometimes had more information available on certain names, and those records are longer and more detailed. All records have references listing the sources from which the information was obtained. The records are numbered sequentially, and the every-name index directs readers to the primary record number for each individual.
