Author Information

Washington-Melchizedek draws her inspiration for her photography from the rich cultural influences of Harlem. Born in Harlem, she grew up in Brooklyn. Many years later, she returned to the Harlem community. In 1977, she first began studying photography at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. She views her writings and photography as pastoral genre, where she seeks to promote her Christian faith. She graduated from the Art (Photography) program from The City College of New York, CUNY with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Prior to that, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology, SUNY. She also holds a Master of Science degree in Studio Art from The College of New Rochelle. She studied architecture, costume, and decorative arts in Paris and have worked for several New York museums and galleries.
