OverviewIn 1999, Robert Boeder finally finished the Hardrock 100 Mile Endurance Run after three failures. In this first person narrative, he describes the challenges of completing this most difficult of all 100 mile trail races. He also writes about the history of the San Juan Mountains, where the race takes place, and the town of Silverton, Colorado, Hardrock 100 race headquarters. He has a BA in English from the University of Minnesota and was a Peace Crops Volunteer teacher in Malawi, Central Africa. He has a PhD in history from Michigan State University and taught at the Universities of Zambia and Malawi where he was a Fulbright Professor. He spent twenty years working for the U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, N.C. He enjoys writing, hiking, running and skiing and divides his time between Silverton, Colorado and Bangkok, Thailand. If he can eat Thai food, exercise and do something creative every day he's happy.
