Overview

Steve Forest is admitted to the hospital after a bad accident and subsequent near-death experience near the summit of Mt. Everest. Within three hours of arriving: * A doctor informs him he'll be a paraplegic the rest of his life. He's been a high-altitude mountaineer; * His wife serves him with divorce papers in a screaming fight in his hospital room. With the encouragement of the Light, he'd returned to his life from his near-death experience to be a better husband and father; * The widow of his best friend, Dan, confronts him with Dan's death on the mountain. He doesn't know what to tell her; * He continues to be deeply confused by immense conflict between his 'old self' and an identification with a 'new self' emerging from his recent experience. Steve doesn't know what to do. Then Jack appears ... and the adventure, and the dialogue begins...

Dave Gordon was born in September, 1939, the same month World War II started. He graduated from four years at a Jesuit high school, but hadn't learned enough yet to avoid the Jesuits and went on to six years at a Jesuit university, earning a great education. He left the church in 1968, and after many years of an eclectic study of Zen, began a daily practice in 1998. He began living at a Zen monastery for short periods (up to two months) in 2001, and still likes doing so. He lives with his wife and three teacher cats near Spokane, Washington.
