He received his B.A. and Ph.D. in psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and his M.A. degree from the American University in Washington, D.C. In addition to coediting all three volumes of the Handbook of Motivation and Cognition with E. Tory Higgins, he has coedited two other books, has published articles in personality, social, and educational psychology, and has served on the editorial boards of several journals.
