Reviews

"Kurt has a linguistically intricate ear and a forceful passionate intellect, and when they work together the poems blaze with a fluent originality. The best of these are Grading the Weekend, Closing Time, Litany, A Certain Hesitancy in Tuesday, Everest, Midnight Recital, the Ghazal to Disquietude. And, of the others, their writing level is very high. I have great respect for this work. Tony Hoagland Author of Donkey Gospel and Recent Changes in the Vernacular From training to load nuclear rockets in Germany, to childhood abuse by children, to spiritual despair and enlightenment, to eroticism and romance, to ""intertextual"" allusions, to word-love and word-play, to realism, and to music, Kurt Lovelace dips his poet's tongue into the honey of intelligence and witness. His voice is authentic; and his arresting collection has the heft and range of a tome. DeWitt Henry Founder of Ploughshares literary magazine Author of Sweet Marjoram: Notes and Essays and the novel, The Marriage of Anna Maye Potts "
