OverviewGypsy McPhee is a precocious girl of 8 years old with red hair and bright green eyes. She lives in a land of make believe, preferring to spend her days with her friends she finds in books and experiencing all sorts of adventures with her little sister, Lucy Blue, who everyone calls Lulu. During the summer before third grade, Gypsy finds her world shattered when her dad has passed away suddenly, leaving, Gypsy, Lulu and their mother all alone. Forced with not being able to provide for her family, Gypsy's mom must move the family away from the only home they've ever known and across the country to California to live with her mother, their Nonni. Adjusting to a whole new life is hard for Gypsy. As she struggles to deal with her dad's death and fit in with the kids in her new school, Gypsy begins to understand she's not as alone as she first thought and along the way makes a new friend in fellow new kid, ReRe Martin.
