Author Information

Leonid Arkaev was appointed Chief Gymnastics Coach of the USSR in 1972. He retained this position until 1992 when the USSR disbanded. He was then appointed President and Chief Coach (Men and Women) of the Russian Gymnastics Federation - both positions he still holds. He has produced more Olympic, World and European Gold medallists than any other coach in any Olympic sport (539 medals of which 209 are gold - 49 Olympic Champions, 91 World Champions and 69 European Champions). He is respected as the number one coach in all sports throughout the world. Nikolai Suchilin was a member of Arkaev's scientific team. Nikolai Suchilin is respected in Russia, not only as a sports scientist and leading professional researcher, but as a coach who worked for twenty years in Moscow Clubs and for 10 years with the USSR gymnastics junior team, from which many of the greatest Olympic, World and European Champions came.
