Author Information

Ballentine joined the Navy after high school in the late 1950s and attended the University of Florida. After two years, he joined the Marine Corps and attended flight school in Pensacola as a Marine Aviation Cadet, earning a commission as a Naval Aviator in 1965. From March 1966 to April 1967, then-LT Ballentine served in Vietnam and flew armed UH-1Es in Marine Observation Squadron Six, stationed at Ky Ha, north of Chu Lai along the coast, 50 miles south of Danang.
