Overview

Based on his own experience of working with individuals who have suffered sexual abuse, the author of this work has created a single-issue structured counselling programme designed to meet the needs of adult or adolescent survivors. This volume outlines this programme first by explaining its basic elements - its structure, progression, reasoning, time-scale and philosophy - then by discussing the issues and problems that are likely to arise over the course of the programme. The theoretical discussion is illustrated with case studies and examples.

Reviews

The book is a serious attempt to explain to workers and to clients how a programme for abuse survivors actually works. Simon is an experienced person-centred counsellor, who uses all the well-tried methods which have been successful in work with abuse survivors * Community Care * I found this book very easy to read, it is relevant, understandable and useful. It puts into words the various feelings I had before, during and still do after group/individual counselling. * Yvonne, a survivor and group member *
