Overview

Stretching-you've probably heard of it. The fitness market is flooded with conflicting and confusing information about stretching. In The Guide to Wellness through Stretching, physiotherapist Dale Deis and physiologist Ed Stiles have taken a stiff, old principle and increased its range of motion. By providing education, clear direction and dispelling myths and misunderstandings, Deis and Stiles reaffirm the many benefits of stretching for all bodies. In this user-friendly guide, readers will gain knowledge about the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries, self awareness of postural and movement restrictions, and the tools needed to apply the principles of healthy movement, using stretching as a base. The authors encourage self reliance, putting clients in the driver's seats of their own bodies, and offering a simple, tangible approach to moving, feeling, and functioning better.

Author Information

Dale Deis (Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Medicine; Physical Therapy) has been a practicing physio for more than thirty years. He's worked with patients ranging from infants to seniors to professional athletes, and has devoted his life to assisting people on the path from injured and often debilitating states to full recovery. He believes that the recovery process is very much up to the client. His mission is to positively influence a person's relationship to their body and their environment by providing pain relief, and by helping them become aware of the resources they have available to them. Stretching is the one thing he can reliably help someone understand and perform on their own. Dale benefits from an active and productive lifestyle, using stretching as his base. Living in Medicine Hat, Alberta, he enjoys playing baseball and hockey and spending time in nature. He has a daughter and three beautiful grandchildren. Ed Stiles (Bachelor of Physical Education, Clinical Exercise Physiologist) has been on the frontlines of the fitness and post rehabilitation industry since 1991. Ed has trained thousands of people of all ages and abilities, including young budding athletes, cancer survivors, chronic disease patients, cardiac rehab clients, NHL players, Olympians, and all manner of folks with bad hips, knees, shoulders, and backs. He has worked with countless chiros, physios, massage therapists, and MDs, and has been motivated and inspired by the number of lives he's seen improved with the proper application of stretching. He lives in Medicine Hat, Alberta with his amazing wife of twenty-eight years. Their two grown sons still stop by for food and cold bevvies from time to time.
