Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationAndrew Rutherford is Dean of the Faculty of Law and Professor of Law at Southampton University. After studying at the Universities of Durham and Cambridge, he worked in the then Prison Department as an assistant governor in three borstal institutions. After six years' teaching in the United States of America he returned to England and joined Southampton University in 1979. He is the author of several key works on criminal justice and penal affairs including Prisons and the Process of Justice: The Reductionist Challenge (1984), Criminal Justice and the Pursuit of Decency (1993) and Transforming Criminal Policy: Spheres of Influence in the United States, The Netherlands and England and Wales During the 1980s (1996). Since 1996 he has edited the Waterside Press Criminal Policy Series. He is a former chairman of the Howard League for Penal Reform and is married with three children.
