Rebels and Romance: Rise of Feminism in Britain 1066-1885, and Scandals of Gender

Overview

Pastor Chua Wee Hian shares the life-long wealth of his experience and insights, exploring the 'peaks and the pits' of leadership throughout. He majors on the importance of 'adding value' to the people we serve by inspiring them to be like Jesus, 'full of grace and truth'. Pastor Chua is keen to emphasise that spiritual leadership is not just about individuals and the Lord; it is the product of the company leaders keep, too. Do we 'walk with giants' and 'soar with eagles' or do we unknowingly 'linger with ducks and turkeys', who keep us down? He warns against the perils of judging and labelling fellow leaders while stressing the importance of questioning assumptions over terms like 'being open to the Spirit' or 'cell-based church'. Interpretations easily vary and frequently lead to serious misunderstanding. Wee Hian's enduring spirit of learning enabled him to embark on the fruitful journey of Word-and-Spirit, encountering afresh the reality and exercise of spiritual gifts like prophecy and healing. In the book, he offers wisdom on issues including investing in personal and corporate properties - not least the miraculous purchase of Emmanuel Centre, a church building right in the heart of London that God has strategically used to further His Kingdom. Readers will be enriched discovering how Pastor Chua and his wife, King Ling, brought up three sons, all of whom are now known among the nations, and who are creatively pushing boundaries and claiming new ground for God. Wee Hian has invited all three of his sons to write Forewords to Growing Leaders, and is extremely grateful that his grandson, Benjamin, has assisted him in writing, collating and producing this book. His desire is for all he meets and impacts to leave lasting legacies in the lives of their children - both biological and spiritual. Growing Leaders is written primarily in a narrative style and is therefore extremely readable. Enjoy Pastor Chua's humour and insights as he shares the wonder and challenges of servant-leadership. The book is primarily for those engaged in Christian leadership at any and all levels. As there are questions at the end of most chapters to pray, think and work through, Growing Leaders provides invaluable guidelines for mentors and mentees alike.

Reviews

Bishop Rennis Ponniah, Singapore - A rich treasure trove for all who train and form leaders across the globe! George Verwer D.D., Founder of OM - This book, especially for new leaders, is equal to one or more years at the best theological college. Andrew Goh, editor, IMPACT Magazine - How often do we come across a book where the Foreword is written by the three sons of the author? Seldom but when it happens, it is such a good thing. Here's Deuteronomy 6:4-9 working out, ... and you shall impress them deeply upon your children; (verse 7a, Berkeley Version) The validation of a leader: the person you see on stage is the same person at home. So Growing Leaders has that ring of authenticity and practicality, with light touches of lived experiences next to deep reflections. Ps Chew Weng Chee, Senior Pastor, SIBKL, Malaysia - ...a record of precious leadership lessons of a life well lived for the glory of God... a must read for every level and category of leader.
