Overview"Eating vegetables is good for you. Growing your own is even better. ""You are what you eat"" may be a timeworn adage, but it makes a valid point. When you grow your own vegetables, you'll not only eat better food, but you'll also regain your connection to the seasons and the natural rhythms of life. Growing your own will change what's on your dinner table, and it will change you. That's the philosophy behind Carol Klein's impeccably thorough guide to home vegetable gardening. In its pages, she reveals all the tricks to becoming a successful small-plot gardener, from preparing the soil, to deciding what to grow (and when to plant and harvest), to coping with pests, weeds, and other common problems. The book's second half is a veritable encyclopedia of the various vegetables-delicate salad greens, hardy root vegetables, and everything in between-that you might choose to grow." Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationBest-known as co-presenter of BBC's Gardeners' World, Carol Klein is an internationally renowned gardener. Manchester-born Carol moved to Devon in the late 1970s with her two daughters. She started propagating plants because she couldn't afford to buy the ones she wanted for her own garden. Friends suggested she sell the spares, so Carol opened a stall in the local market, and eventually she opened her own nursery. Carol has designed four commercial show gardens at Chelsea, winning five Chelsea gold medals. She has presented several gardening shows since her television debut on Gardeners' World in 1989, including Life in a Cottage Garden, Plant Odysseys and Great British Gardens. Carol also writes regularly for Gardeners World magazine, House & Garden and is a frequent contributor to the Sunday Mirror gardening section. In November 2019 Carol was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Garden Media Guild Awards. Her books include RHS Grow Your Own Veg which sold more than 150,000 copies as tracked by Nielsen TCM. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
