Reviews

If you can only use one text for graduate students or new counselors, this is the one. It's group counseling made clear and manageable. My students report that the best parts are the how-to's, like deepening the focus, cutting off, using rounds. It offers a practical, hands-on guide to group counseling with concrete, specific information for students on how to run a group from beginning to end. It stresses creativity and active leadership, and it provides many exercises that beginning group leaders can use from the beginning of their careers. I highly recommend it. The book is well constructed, appropriate for graduate-level work, comprehensive in coverage of issues related to group work. Students consistently provide favorable feedback about this text.
