Chase Center for Civics, Culture, and Society at the Ohio State University. He earned a PhD in history from the University of Virginia and also holds degrees in history from Princeton University, Columbia University, and the London School of Economics. His research focuses on the evolution of the United States’ role in the world and how American leaders have framed their strategies and made decisions at moments of global change. He is the author of Rogue States: The Making of America’s Global War on Terror. He lives in Columbus, Ohio. Johnny Shumate works as a freelance illustrator living in Nashville, Tennessee.
