Reviews

This book provides a very insightful and in-depth study on Chinese green NGOs, their relation with the party-state, political leverage, and the multi-dimensional ways in which they influence environmental policy and frame their campaigns. It will be a valuable book for those interested in China's environmental politics. -- Peter Ho, Ford Foundation Through a series of fascinating case studies and interviews, Zhang and Barr reveal the complex interaction between China's people and its government as policy is decided and implemented. This book should be read by all those with an interest in the future of our planet and in the changing relationship between state and society in China. -- Tony Saich, Daewoo Professor of International Affairs, Harvard University
