Overview

Many places call themselves 'eco' or 'green', yet standards differ enormously throughout the world. This guide features those very special European places that also go the extra mile to provide responsible holidays. Our guide includes snow pods; treehouses; yurts & tipis; country B&Bs; organic farmstays; eco-chic hotels - all striving to be green. This book also discusses what each country is doing to go 'green' and provides information on travel by public transport around Europe.

'Sawday is a campaigner for the environment and good food, and his recommendations are like those of a good friend who knows just what sort of place you are looking for' The Guardian

Author Information

A pioneer in the environmental world, Alastair Sawday has had a remarkably miscellaneous and varied career, which has taken him to the most far-flung corners of the globe: he headed up a VSO programme in Papua New Guinea, ran a disaster relief team for Oxfam in Turkey, and has run a small travel company, conducting walking tours throughout Europe. It was this that inspired him to publish his first travel guide, French Bed & Breakfast, after discovering various 'special' B&Bs and the extraordinary people that run them.
