Our Great Lives from History series details the biographies of important people throughout history and worldwide. The series is recognized by the library community for providing coverage that is broad in areas of achievement as well as geography, while at the same time including the recognized shapers of history essential to all liberal arts studies. Major world leaders appear here as well as the giants of religious faith, popes and monarchs, military leaders and saints, inventors and artists who left their imprint on political, spiritual, and cultural institutions. What makes this resource unique is the inclusion of figures who have received little or no attention in the past. The series includes essays ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 words in length (roughly 6-10 pages) and displays standard ready-reference top matter offering easy access to biographical information. Several features distinguish this series as a whole from other biographical reference works. The front matter in all volumes includes a complete list of contents; pronunciation keys appear for all difficult names; sidebars offer insights into key episodes or primary source documents within the essays; and all sets include detailed indexes by area of achievement, geographic locale, personages, and subject.
