This edition is packed with in-depth conversations and powerful visuals from the creative minds shaping the future of visual communication. From legendary designers to rising educators, Journal 385 is a deep dive into the creative process, career-defining insights, and behind-the-scenes thinking that fuels award-winning work. Design Excellence: We honor the late Kari Piippo (FI), a Graphis Master, with a moving tribute by Finn Nygaard, celebrating a legacy defined by his mantra: “Simple, Strong, and Sharp.” Brad Hochberg, co-founder of The Refinery (US), offers a look inside the high-stakes world of entertainment marketing, where every poster must both sell and tell a story. In packaging, Vishal Vora of Sol Benito (IN) proves that good design is never just surface deep—it’s concept, craft, and clarity in one. Advertising Powerhouse: If you’ve played a major video game in the last ten years, chances are PETROL Advertising had a hand in its success. Their cinematic campaigns don’t just promote games—they immerse players in the experience. See how this agency builds emotional bridges across borders, genres, and screens. Award-Winning Photography: Photographer Scott Lowden (US) describes his work as “life-fashionography”—a hybrid of storytelling, style, and human connection. Hadley Stambaugh (US), creative director at SCAD, captures voices that often go unseen—shining a light on student and alumni talent with elegance and precision. Illustration & Visual Storytelling: From rich analog textures to modern digital vibrance, this issue celebrates the best in contemporary illustration. These artists speak volumes—without a single word. Creative Education & Process: SVA educator Justin Colt challenges students to get uncomfortable in the best way. His collaborative, high-bar approach fosters bold thinkers who aren’t afraid to break—and rewrite—the rules.
