This book-subtitled Detector and Emitter Concepts -is dedicated to the applications of graphene in terahertz and optical spectrum, especially to emission and detection in this electromagnetic spectrum. The work is written by many renowned scientists working in the area of semiconductors and is divided into six parts. Part 1 deals with plasma waves in 2D electron-hole gas. Part 2 focuses on terahertz detectors based on lateral graphene-layer structures. The population inversion in graphene is the subject of part 3 of the book, and part 4 describes stimulated emission. Part 5 presents the detectors and emitters based on photon/plasmon-assisted tunneling between graphene layers separated by an atomically thin insulating/semiconducting layer. Finally, Part 6 extends these concepts to van der Waals heterostructures. The book is mainly an advanced theoretical work, but experiments are also presented and explained. Therefore, this is a book dedicated to Ph.D. students and researchers. Mircea Dragoman, National Research and Development Institute in Microtechnology, Romania.
