OverviewThis edited volume aims to provide a wide-ranging presentation and analysis of Gramsci's writings on religion for the Anglophone world. While some articles concentrate mainly on the Prison Notebooks (Boothman, Frosini, Green, Prigiotti, Zene), others also refer to Gramsci's pre-prison writings (Maffia, Chino), thus offering a broad contribution of his thought on the subject. Three of the ten articles are purposely dedicated to a discussion of Gramsci's theories on religion as applied to the specific contexts of Africa (Ciavolella), Latin America (Semeraro) and Asia/India (Patnaik and Anish), thus highlighting the relevance of his concepts to diverse milieus. The work does not claim to be fully comprehensive, but it nevertheless does set the pace for further, fruitful research in this direction.
