Reviews

""Grab Your Rocks & Throw is a call to witness, remember, and move. In these pages, Jozer Guerrero wields language like a stone in the palm, arcing toward systems that would rather we stay silent. His poems walk bicultural streets, dance cumbia under the moon, carry the weight of ancestors, and stare down the ghosts of our histories. This voice rises from alleyways and basketball courts, from kitchens scented with frijoles, from classrooms too crowded to hold the dreams spilling out-and it refuses to be contained. This is poetry as protest, as prayer, as testament: we are still here, still creating, still throwing."" -Bobby LeFebre, writer, performer, cultural worker, Colorado Poet Laureate Emeritus ""Grab Your Rocks & Throw is Jose ""Jozer"" Guerrero's new work. It is a collection of poetry and short stories with rhythmic expressions that capture a vision and reflections of his life and observations from his childhood to his maturing into adulthood. It is a love letter to his community, his family, and his identity. I found it moving and profoundly resounding and powerful. Overall I came away finding this great work inspiring, thought-provoking, melodically rhythmic with poetic grace and passion. One can taste and feel the author's phrases and expressions. It's an invitation into the mind and heart of an evolving new poet activist finding his voice. ¡Se Vale!"" -Daniel Valdez, Chicano actor, musician, and activist, star of Zoot Suit and musical director of La Bamba ""Like menudo Mexicano-this collection blends often discarded elements that others find difficult to swallow-into a super spicy savory soup that reflects the both mastery of the chef and the aesthetics of the consumer!""-Dr Loco from Dr Loco's Rocking Jalapeño Band""Jozer's lyricism is laser-focused on the truth, threading the needle, moving the crowd, and piercing straight to the heart of the matter. Menudo's sonic landscape is both haunting and head-nodding.""-Jonny 5, Flobots
