Overview

"The good news of Jesus in the gospel message sets people free! It is meant to be offered to all people in every place on the planet. Yet many haven't heard. The largest group of people yet unreached by the gospel are Muslims, or followers of Islam. They are typically very resistant to it. How can they be effectively reached? Some missionaries from the West have sought to make the gospel message more ""acceptable"" to their Muslim audience by doing the following: Mistranslating the Bible by taking out words that are offensive to Muslims Telling former Muslims who believe in Jesus to stay in Islam Promoting a churchless Christianity Downplaying and sometimes denying the truth that Jesus is God Does this trouble you? Should you be concerned? This book will help you discern the errors and address them, to stop the good news from going bad."

Reviews

God is doing amazing things for His glory throughout the Majority World (often called the Third World). But in the midst of the movement of millions coming to faith in Christ each year globally, there are dangers that need to be addressed. In this well-written and clearly articulated book, Dr. Baugh addresses the dangers and pitfalls of the Insider Movement, which often seeks to make the gospel more acceptable to unreached audiences through unbiblical methods. The temptation for ministry expediency, apart from sound biblical interpretation and rigorous missiological and theological engagement, is genuine. I encourage anyone involved in outreach to Muslims to read and consider the arguments made in this book. -Paul R. Madson, founder and president, Global Training Network Dr. Baugh has done a great service for the church by exposing a growing practice in missions strategy today rooted in errant theology and a distortion of the gospel message. He writes from many years of personal missions experience in Muslim-majority countries as well as careful analysis of source materials. Any missions leader or missionary staff intending to minister in such a context must read this book! -Jeffrey R. King, pastor and current CEO of Indopartners Agency In history, people who were held by fear tried to develop theologies that fit their comforts in order to escape the cost of discipleship. Modern people who are held by the same thinking are doing the same, and as a result, many emotional theologies have destroyed the authenticity of the Word of God. I can't imagine what could have been the outcome of an ill-formed theology that denies the power of the gospel that saves sinners when I was coming to Christ as a former imam (Muslim cleric)! I would be a half-baked Christian or minister who preaches or believes in some things that are not the gospel. I have seen several people who came from Islam and remain the same and still struggling because of the approach used when they were coming to faith. This is a well-articulated book with a sound argument that fits both the theological reflection and Jesus-honoring practices of anyone wanting to bring the gospel to Muslims. In this book, Dr. Jim Baugh addresses the issues arising against the authenticity of those involved in Muslim evangelism, brings the reality of what is taking place on the field, and interprets it in the reality of what the Word of God says. This book is sound, reasonable, and practical with testimonies that make his argument more profound. If you are considering joining the work of reaching Muslims with the gospel and those already involved in Muslim outreach, I advise you to first read this book. -Rev. Cedric Kanana, founder and international director of Absolute Human Freedom International (AHFI), senior pastor of Kanyinya Parish, Anglican Church of Rwanda, Kigali Diocese
