Overview

""At the heart of everything is you. And you are Good just as you are."" Award-winning author Alexs Pate reminds readers of the inner Good found inside each of us. This Good is the source of joy, hope, laughter, and dreams. But what happens to that Good when life offers up big challenges--the kind that can make us forget about our Good and instead choose Trouble? With poetic and lyrical language, Pate shows readers that even when Trouble comes calling, Good is at the heart of everything they are.

Author Information

Tequitia Andrews (pronounced ta-key-ta) is an artist and illustrator from Richmond, Virginia. A graduate of Virginia State University, Tequitia didn't pursue a career as an artist until her 30's. Starting off primarily as a painter, Tequitia took an independent learning journey in all the different facets of art making. She found her voice in the world of illustration. Alexs Pate is the President and CEO of Innocent Technologies and creator of the Innocent Classroom, a program for K-12 educators that aims to transform American public education and end disparities by closing the relationship gap between educators and students of color. Alexs is also the author of five novels including Amistad commissioned by Steven Spielberg's Dreamworks/SKG and based on the screenplay by David Franzoni, which became a New York Times Bestseller. Alexs's other novels are Losing Absalom, Finding Makeba, The Multicultiboho Sideshow, and West of Rehoboth. His first children's book, Being You, also from Capstone Editions, delivers a message of hope and self-discovery in a time of uncertainty in our world. Prior to these pursuits, Alexs has worked as a professor and teacher at Macalester College, the University of Minnesota, Naropa, and the University of Southern Maine's Stonecoast Creative Writing Program where he also received an M.F.A.
