She graduated in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. During that same year, she married her husband, Mike, and began working at Florida Power Corporation (presently known as Duke Energy.) Kathy has always enjoyed creative writing and doodling. After having children, Nate, Zack, and Cannon, Kathy thoroughly enjoyed volunteering as a Bible story teacher at her local church, and helping at her children's local schools. During the summer months, when her children were young, she enjoyed taking them to libraries and parks as well as developing creative lessons for them to do at home. As Kathy's boys grew past the elementary school age, she had more time to devote to her electrical engineering career where she found that her creative side was useful. Over the 35 years that Kathy planned the Florida transmission grid, she found that presenting her projects in an understandable and simplified manner was the best way for the projects to move forward. Thus, she honed her skills at becoming a 'storyteller' of large infrastructure projects. After retiring in 2023, Kathy used those storytelling skills and finally found the time to do what she has loved doing since she was a child: writing stories and doodling. With her pet miniature dachshund, Buddy, by her side, she writes and draws what she calls the 'Buddoodles Animal Adventure Series' books. ""Fiona the Funny Flamingo"", ""Anya the Adventurous Antelope"", and ""Gomer the Goofy Goat"" are the first books Kathy completed. She has written thirteen others and is presently working on illustrating them. When she is finished, there will be 26 books in the series. This retirement hobby of Kathy's has become a passion. Each day she wakes up looking forward to bringing the Buddoodle animal friends in her head to life through her books. It thrills her to see a child enjoying something she has written and illustrated, and she hopes it encourages them to read, write, draw, be adventurous, and be a true friend to those around them.
