Paul Vachier wears many hats. As a web designer he got his start designing web articles for Word magazine, a ground-breaking early e-zine. Later he worked with the staff at Salon.com to launch their first online issues, and served various web design and production stints at companies such as Symantec, @Home, Om Records, Macromedia, Lynda.com (Lynda Weinman's training center), and GoLive Systems. At GoLive Systems he was hired as Webmaster and oversaw the creation and maintenance of the company's web site during the CyberStudio 3 and CyberStudio 4 product launches. He attended many trade shows, gave many demos, and uploaded lots of web pages to the company servers. He also wrote the original documentation for developing third-party actions and has written many of the actions that ship with GoLive today. Paul taught web technologies at both San Francisco State University's Multimedia Studies program and the Academy of Art College in San Francisco. He has also co-authored several software and Internet related books including: Plug-N-Play JavaScript (New Riders), DeBabelizer: The Authorized Edition (Hayden), and Dreamweaver 3 and 4 for Dummies (Hungry Minds). Paul received a BA in anthropology and history from Montclair State University in New Jersey and did graduate studies at UCLA. Today he lives in Santa Fe, NM where he devotes his time to additional activities such as art, bicycling, skiing, amateur DJing, martial arts (Niseido Ju-Jitsu), and trying to learn Final Cut Pro. Rob worked for a variety of small and large companies implementing internet systems and along the way discovered GoLive CyberStudio, a revolutionary application that opened his eyes to the brave new world of WYSIWYG HTML editing. Rob, along with his wife Janet, now run Big Bang Solutions, a small web development company located in Brisbane, Australia. Big Bang designs and implements custom web applications for a variety of companies around the world. Rob was one of the first developers to release extensions for Adobe GoLive using the GoLive 5 Software Development Kit (SDK);these extensions have been very well received and have led to further work for the company, including custom extension development for Adobe Systems. Jay Bain is a freelance WWW and wireless application developer based in San Francisco, CA. In 2001, Jay led a small development team building HaikuHaiku (http://www.haikuhaiku.com),a global index of location-specific content, akin to digital graffiti created by users from around the world. The beta site received significant media coverage for introducing the idea of digital tagging of physical locations using the WWW or mobile devices. Jay has also filled UI/IA, project management, production and strategic planning roles at e-commerce startups focused on wireless (Livemind.com) and group buying (Mobshop.com) e-commerce solutions, as well as interactive agencies (Andersen & Lembke). Clients for whom he produced website and rich media solutions have included Microsoft, Sony, Hewlett-Packard and others. Jay is an active participant in various online communities focusing on wireless and WWW application development. In 1996 he co-founded the NoEnd Web Developer's group in the Bay Area with Paul Vachier while he was a lone webmaster. NoEnd blossomed into an online community that thrives to this day. Other web-related jobs have included: freelance writer for Wired Magazine and other publications, professional online host for Netscape (pre-AOL), and technology consultant and project manager. Recently Caleb completed a Masters in Educational Technology at San Diego State University where he studied online community, narrative, usability, and then worked as an adjunct professor teaching both online and in person graduate classes. Pre-web, Caleb worked as a Hollywood PA, carpenter, bartender, and sailor. At the time of this writing Caleb is the director of the San Diego Padre's Ballpark Advanced Technology Lab (BAT_LAB). With over a decade of documentation experience, Kay applies her expertise to paper and electronic publishing. An accomplished trainer, her certifications include Adobe FrameMaker Certified Expert (ACE), Chrystal Canterbury Certified Trainer, and Quadralay WebWorks Publisher Certified Trainer. She writes for IT Magazine (Raleigh, NC) and recently co-authored XML Weekend Crash Course with Alan Houser. She presented on FrameMaker-to-XML functionality at several recent conferences and seminars, including the 1999 FrameMaker Users Conference. Kay is also past-Vice Presidentof the Society for Technical Communication's Carolina Chapter and currently cochairs the TriXML users group.
