Overview

Two young backwoods brothers light out to find gold in Georgia's mountains in 1830. They discover the best and worst men, and women, among the thousands of miners, hundreds of prostitutes, and the few original settlers. They take separate paths to make money, find love, an education. In a town flowing with money and upheavals, including having all its Indian population driven out at the behest of another backwoodsman, Andrew Jackson. They also face a serial killer.

The author grew up in Lawrenceville, GA, and graduated from the University of Georgia's Journalism School. She was a reporter or copy editor on newspapers in Gainesville, Augusta, and Columbus. After a stint as copy editor at The Miami Beach Sun in Florida, she went into public relations and subsequently taught journalism at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania. Today she edits books-and writes-at her home in Summerfield, FL.
