God's Heart for the Prodigal: A Devotional Journey of Mercy, Redemption, and Unfailing Love

Overview

Inspired by the Williams family's journey with their son Zach, God's Heart for the Prodigal offers thirty days of hope, Scripture, and hard-won wisdom to anyone praying for a prodigal they love. God's Heart for the Prodigal was born from Steve and Jenia Williams's own heartbreak and hope as they prayed for their son, Zach, during the years he wandered far from his faith. With raw honesty and unshakable belief in God's power to restore, they share the lessons, Scriptures, and prayers that sustained them through long seasons of waiting. Now returned to faith, Zach adds his own perspective to their story, offering unique insights from both sides of the prodigal journey. This 30-day devotional is for every parent, grandparent, spouse, or friend who carries the weight of loving a prodigal. Each day offers encouragement from God's Word, practical guidance for interceding without enabling, and space to process your own grief, fears, and hopes. Steve and Jenia's journey, enriched by Zach and his wife Crystal's candid reflections on his own wandering and return, is a living testimony that no one is beyond the reach of God's grace. Their family's story, paired with biblical truth, will strengthen your faith, deepen your trust, and remind you that your prayers are powerful and effective. If your heart is heavy for someone you love, God's Heart for the Prodigal will walk beside you, helping you hold on to hope, lean on the Father's love, and believe that He is still writing your loved one's redemption story.

Reviews

""As a former prodigal myself, I am still amazed at the patience, love and prayers that my mother and father gave to me. As you read this devotion you will find the depth of which a mom and dad (Steve and Jenia Williams) will go to see their son or daughter turned back to God. This book is all about never giving up no matter how bad it may seem. It's about trusting the Word of God and praying His word back to Him with faith even when it looks impossible. If you have a prodigal son or daughter you will find the encouragement and stamina you need as you turn each page. Thanks Steve and Jenia for sharing your story of mercy, redemption, and unfailing love."" Senior Pastor Terry Watson The Rock of Northeast Arkansas ""Everyone knows and loves a prodigal. Steve and Jenia definitely have their own stories that can help so many, and this 30-day devotional is the personal testimony of the Williams family. You can learn how to help and love the prodigal the right way by using more of God's word and less of yours. Steve, being a prodigal himself, had the wisdom and love to help his own prodigal son Zach and son-in-law, Toby. This led to salvation for many knowing that no one is ever too far away or too lost for the love of Jesus to reach. It encourages all the families and the prodigal themselves. We have witnessed this very thing at John 3:16 Ministries over and over because we all know someone who is a prodigal. I encourage you to spend 30-days in this book to benefit yourself and the ones you love."" Bryan Tuggle Founder and Director of John 3:16 Ministries ""The chapters felt personal as if they were written for the very moment when someone needs encouragement the most. Steve and Jenia, through these pages, give a powerful reminder of what grace looks like in action. No matter where you are on the journey this devotional is for you. Thank you Steve and Jenia Williams for your continued devotion to those who are struggling."" Jeff Watson Recovery Pastor at the Rock of Northeast Arkansas ""Few things are more painful than watching a child walk away from the Lord. In God's Heart for the Prodigal, Steve and Jenia Williams write from both Scripture and personal experience as the parents of Christian artist Zach Williams. They understand the heartbreak and hope that come with loving a prodigal and the faithfulness of God through it all. Let this family's compelling story be a reminder for you that no one is beyond the reach of God."" Greg Laurie Senior Pastor, Harvest Christian Fellowship
