OverviewInspired by the the lack of album art in the age of invisible music, Brooklyn-based record label Aqualamb publishes 100+ page books of artwork and writings as a tangible accompaniment to its releases - a bit like extended liner notes - curated by its artists. The imprint's latest release is from Brooklyn metal outfit Godmaker - two New Yorkers and two Kansans who have combined forces to crush your soul, break your heart, and rattle your innards. The thematic book features the artwork of Joseph Silver and Stephen Wilson along with photography and lyrics that provide a rich visual companion to Godmaker's punishingly/defiantly heavy music. Atmospheric and thunderously loud riffs are combined with bursts of melodic virtuosity and sparse minimalism to create epic, violently technical structures. The book includes a download link to the 4-song, 33-minute LP that was produced and mixed by Justin Mantooth and recorded with the help of Phil Duke. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationBrooklyn-based heavy metal outfit Godmaker is two New Yorkers and two Kansans who have combined forces to crush your soul, break your heart, and rattle your innards. Forged in Brooklyn by Andrew Archey (bass) and Jon Lane (drums, ex Broehammer) in the spring of 2013, the booming rhythm section quickly found its perfect compliment close to home. Pete Ross (Vox / Guitars), already playing with Cleanteeth, was exactly the riff-maker and voice that Godmaker needed. A chance encounter also brought Jon's former bandmate, Chris Strait (guitars), of Kansan hardcore outfit The Last Tyrant, into the fold. Godmaker plays punishingly/defiantly heavy music that inhabits uncharted parts of the sonic spectrum. Atmospheric and thunderously loud riffs are combined with bursts of melodic virtuosity and sparse minimalism to create epic, violently technical structures. With track times on their self-titled debut ranging from six and a half to well over eleven minutes, Godmaker songs are as unrelenting as they are infectious. Listeners tend to be left hopelessly head-lobbing with an uncontrollable grin. Proving itself a force to be reckoned with, the band has already shared the stage with the likes of Floor, Weedeater, Black Cobra, Lo-Pan, Mutoid Man, and Howl -and they're just getting started.
