Overview

The Detroit Tigers began as a professional baseball team in 1901, with the team nickname the Tigers. Since 1901, they have kept the same team name and played in the same city. The Tigers started with two of the most iconic and notable players in baseball history, Ty Cobb and Wahoo Sam Crawford. They are both in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
